"We are aware of what will happen", protester Cherry Tsang said as she prepared to leave Victoria Park, "but I think it is actually freedom of speech".

What began as a series of marches against a now-suspended extradition law has since snowballed into a larger anti-government campaign, calling for greater democracy and rebelling against China's control over the enclave.

At Tai Po, a residential area in the New Territories, protesters turned up for a planned march despite not receiving police approval.

Friday, for the first time, Hong Kong's powerful property developers issued a statement denouncing "acts of violence perpetrated by a small group of individuals".

Hong Kong's embattled and deeply unpopular leader, Carrie Lam, appeared in public for the first time in two weeks on Monday, condemning the protesters and saying that they had pushed the territory "to the verge of a very unsafe situation".

CEO Rupert Hogg said in a message to employees on Saturday that the carrier was obliged to comply with the new rules set out by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
