UEFA have announced the shortlists for their 2018/19 awards for the best players of the Champions League and Europa League.

Mane is the only African player who made the final shortlist for the award, with his teammate and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah coming fourth in the same category.

UEFA also announced their list of nominees for the best goalkeeper, defender and midfielder from last season's tournament.

The two absolute legends of the game are joined by Liverpool forward Sadio Mane who was splendid in the Champions League.

The final awards will be presented during the 2019/20 Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on August 29.

World Cup victor Hugo Lloris and Barcelona's Marc Andre Ter Stegen are also in the running for the coveted goalkeeping accolade.

The Senegal global will compete with Barcelona star-forward Lionel Messi and Juventus ace Cristiano Ronaldo for a chance to win the prize.

Midfielder Frenkie de Jong and colossal centre-back Matthijs de Ligt have both been selected for their respective categories.

Shortlists were compiled from votes by the coaches of the 32 clubs that participated in the tournament proper, plus one journalist from each UEFA member association.

The goal beat contenders from the likes of long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo to be voted the best of the 2018/19 season on the UEFA website.
