Meanwhile, with rain subsiding in Ernakulam, water has receded from the Cochin International Airport and operations are likely to commence from Sunday afternoon. The remaining two will fly to their destinations on Sunday as per schedule, said the airport authorities.

Kerala and Karnataka were facing a grim situation on Saturday due to floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains that have left 54 people dead in the last couple of days and disrupted normal life, while 19 people lost their lives in Gujarat since Friday evening in rain-related incidents.

Over 9,500 people have been shifted to relief camps as Kerala is once again being battered by heavy rains with landslips and floods wreaking havoc claiming eight lives on Thursday.

In Wayanad, which experienced a steady downpour throughout Friday, the situation could take a turn for the worse, the Chief Minister said. The government said 64,013 people have been evacuated to 738 camps, and the state is staring at possibly more than ₹1,000 crore in damages to public and private properties, spread across most of north and central Kerala. Seven Kerala districts are on red alert for extremely heavy rainfall on Saturday, including the most affected ones-Wayanad and Idukki.

"The people of Wayanad, my Lok Sabha constituency, are in my thoughts & prayers as they battle raging flood waters".

The private boat was being used by locals to rescue people stranded in the village affected by the flood following heavy rains in the district. Landslides were reported near Maranahalli in Sakaleshpur, said official sources. An entire valley of Kavalappara in Wayanad district has been swept over by earth sliding from the upper reaches burying underneath it about 17 houses along with almost 40 people.

Security forces in the area, along with naval rescue teams, have been carrying on with relief efforts on a war footing to evacuate people to safer places.

With water levels rising, there is a possibility of opening the shutters of Banasurasagar dam, officials have indicated. Relative humidity levels oscillated between 84 per cent and 67 per cent as the national capital received 0.9 mm rains between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm.

"Most of the train services in the state have been hit".
