Inter reach deal with Man Utd for Belgian striker

Manchester United succeeded in offloading striker Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.

He scored 42 goals in 96 games during his time at Old Trafford, but many supporters remained unconvinced by the 26-year-old.

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has explained the club's decision not to buy a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who joined Inter in a £74m transfer on Thursday.

Lukaku has joined Inter Milan in a £72 million deal at the end of a week that saw the striker reprimanded for publishing confidential training data on Twitter and earn a fine from United for missing training on Wednesday.

Chelsea's all-time record goalscorer begins his managerial reign at the club on Sunday away to Manchester United in the Premier League and it would be no surprise if his team includes the likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount.

"Inter were the only club I wanted", said Lukaku.

Announcing the deal in a statement on their official website, the club confirmed that Drinkwater successfully underwent a medical in Burnley on Thursday.

There was a chance that Lukaku wasn't going to be the only departure from Old Trafford yesterday.

He insisted that there is scope to offer clarifications on the deal and to make changes to the future relationship. But if they refuse to move. then we'll leave without a deal. "It is simply saying "No, we don't want to talk".

United had already invested heavily to bring in centre-back Harry Maguire from Leicester City for £80 million (NZ$150 million), making him the most expensive defender in the world.

United reportedly rejected Inter's opening £54-million bid in July before entertaining the idea of a swap deal with Juventus involving Lukaku and Paulo Dybala.

Inter Milan have so far been unable to meet United's valuation of their striker.

"I think, anything that happens on the last day - unless it has been ongoing - smells of panic".

He had loan spells at Huddersfield, Cardiff, Watford and Barnsley before joining Leicester, where he made over 200 appearances in five-and-a-half years.

"On the other hand I don't think he lacks belief to forge his way into the side over time".

So that means that England worldwide Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James are United's only first-team acquisitions this summer, while Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera left the club at the end of their contracts. "That's the competition at the moment, you have to look at what they do".
