Australian police chief's son, his partner, found dead on Canada highway

Two homicide victims found this week in western Canada are the son of a high-ranking Australian Police official and the young man's American girlfriend, Canadian Police said.

Police did not say how the couple was killed but that their deaths are being investigated as homicides.

Investigators remain in the area and have asked anyone who visited nearby camping sites or Liard Hot Springs, a popular stopping point some 20 kilometers (12 miles) from where the couple was discovered, to contact authorities.

Northern Rockies RCMP has launched an investigation into the couple's suspicious deaths and is looking to speak with anyone who may have travelled or have video footage of the stretch of highway between July 14 and 15.

Deese recently graduated from Appalachian State University and Fowler was the son of a New South Wales Police inspector, News.com.au reported.

Lucas Fowler had spent the last several years travelling the world.

Chynna Deese, 24, of North Carolina, and her boyfriend, Lucas Fowler, of Australia were murdered in British Columbia, Canada, Monday.

"We are if truth be told travelling to Canada to be with our boy and to bring him home", says the publish, which urges folk to part it with all these that "crossed paths any place in the field with these heavenly younger folk".

Now, she said, police are trying to determine if the couple were the drivers of the van, as well as gathering information on any other background about the vehicle.

The victims were travelling in an old blue Chevrolet van which Lucas fixed up especially for their road trip adventure through Canada, with plans to camp and visit the national parks.

Assistant Commissioner Jones said Mr Fowler's father, Stephen, and the whole family are devastated.
