Florida sheriff investigates Epstein’s time spent outside of jail

Jeffrey Epstein, the United States billionaire who was accused of sex trafficking with minors, was denied a bail on Thursday and will stay in custody until his trial.

In the indictment unsealed earlier this month, prosecutors say Epstein is a serial predator who abused dozens of minors, including girls as young as 14.

US District Judge Richard Berman rejected Jeffrey Epstein's request to pay for armed guards to be under house arrest in his NY mansion valued at $77 million.

The judge said he also rejected bail because Epstein presents a flight risk, in part because of his "great wealth and vast resources", including private jets, frequent global travel and a foreign residence in Paris.

In a safe in Epstein's home, they found $70,000 in cash, several loose diamonds, and an expired fake passport.

He also cited the short testimony from two alleged victims at the previous hearing, who urged Berman not to release Epstein.

Wealthy financier and declared guilty sex offender Jeffrey Epstein continued to have visits from young women that allegedly resulted in intercourse while he was in "jail" in Florida city, a lawyer for one of his accusers mentioned Tuesday.

Defense attorneys have said the passport was almost 40 years old and its objective was to avert "potential kidnappers, hijackers or terrorists" during travel, as his wealth and Jewish faith made him a target in the Middle East. Prosecutors showed the passport was stamped in several European countries and Saudi Arabia during the 1980s.

"I've had sex with one woman since the day I met Jeffrey Epstein", he continued.

He's pleaded not guilty to federal sex trafficking and conspiracy charges.

Among the 464 pages of deputy logs scrutinized by Contact 5 are countless examples of how Epstein was able to spend unsupervised time at his private mansion, where he stands accused of running a child-sex-trafficking ring, when he should have been at his office.

New York-born Epstein worked as a teacher before moving into finance.

The deal has come under increasing scrutiny with the new charges against Epstein.

Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein is among the sleaziest of perverts, if federal authorities are to be believed. I'm booking you on the show, ' " Daniels said to Trump.

Epstein is accused of arranging for girls under the age of 18 to perform nude "massages" and other sex acts, and of paying some girls to recruit others, from at least 2002 to 2005.

Prosecutors said the discovery of the passport suggests that Epstein posed a flight risk and should remain in jail, NBC News reported. The charges led to the resignation of US President Donald Trump's labor secretary, Alex Acosta, who was Miami US attorney when the deal was signed.

Helderman and Reinhard pointed out that "Trump has said repeatedly he is "not a fan" of Epstein's and that the two had a falling out about 15 years ago".
