Instagram removes likes for Australian users in second global test

It's part of a new test being rolled out by the company in Ireland.

Bad news, influencers: Instagram announced on Thursday that it would be running a test that hides the total number of likes and video views seen by people using the app in seven different countries - including Australia and New Zealand.

Insta says it doesn't want the platform to feel like a competition.

Instagram is hiding the number of likes on posts in several countries, including Australia and Japan, in order to "remove pressure" on users. "We hope this test will remove the pressure of how many likes a post will receive, so you can focus on sharing the things you love", said Mia Garlick, ANZ director of policy at Facebook, which owns Instagram.

Instagram said the measures to hide likes would not affect measurement tools used by businesses that use the platform to promote their products. And also some user thinks that they lack attention on Instagram due to the highest likes in a pic or video. If you really want to know who exactly liked someone else's post, you'll be able to click through to bring up a list of the users who liked the post.

Nominations for 71st Emmy Awards announced Tuesday
The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards will be handed out live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 22 on Fox. The fact-based drama Chernobyl also received 19 nominations, including recognition for actors Jared Harris and Emily Watson.

In January, a simple picture of an egg became the most-liked picture on Instagram.

The change comes amid growing concern about the impact of social media on users' mental health, especially young people.

Mia Garlick says hiding likes, and last week's announcement of further anti-bullying features on the platform are all created to improve the wellbeing of users.

For influencers and businesses, Insights and Ad Manager won't be affected by the changes.
