US, EU Promise Support to Tackle Ebola

He says World Health Organization was informed Sunday that a pastor who had traveled from Butembo was infected with the deadly virus.

"What I've noticed going around the world trying to get people in this room to contribute is there are a lot of very intellectual, sophisticated reasons that worldwide donors give on why they don't want to give any more money", Stewart said.

North Kivu province governor Carly Nzanzu Kasiviata said the Goma case was "detected at an early stage" and isolated.

"Goma is a warning", Ryan told reporters in Geneva.

"The identification of the case in Goma could potentially be a game changer in this epidemic", he said.

It added that his trip began on Friday after "the first symptoms appeared on July 9 (Tuesday)". The city of more than 2 million is on the border with Rwanda.

The health ministries in Congo's neighbors have been preparing for months for the possibility of cases, and frontline health workers already have been vaccinated.

Also starring for Memphis was second-year player and former Duke Blue Devil Grayson Allen , who had 17 points and five rebounds. Williams was assigned No. 40 for the Summer League, but that isn't going to cut it when games started to matter.

Two community workers engaged in the Ebola prevention campaign in Democratic Republic of Congo were murdered in the country's east, which is battling an outbreak the killer disease, the health ministry said Monday.

Health experts have long feared that the disease responsible for killing almost 1,700 people since August would eventually make its way to Goma. A pastor who arrived in the city on Sunday, having travelled south by bus from Butembo, 186 miles (300km) away, tested positive for Ebola at a treatment centre. "However, at each checkpoint, he wrote down different family names and forenames on the passenger list, which probably indicates a will to hide his identity and state of health", the ministry said.

Health officials will move the patient back to Butembo for treatment. A family who fell ill while in Congo did cross the border into neighboring Uganda where two of them then died.

"According to several sources, the attackers are people from the same neighborhood as the two victims who envied their neighbors because they had found a job in response to Ebola", the ministry said.

Last month, the World Health Organization said the outbreak did not qualify as an worldwide threat - a category that significantly ramps up global response to a contagious disease. He also called for other G7 countries to increase their support, specifically Francophone countries.

The Ebola outbreak in Congo's conflict-ridden North Kivu and Ituri provinces is the second largest after the historic 2014 epidemic that killed 11,300 people in West Africa. Health teams have been unable to access areas affected by violence to vaccinate people at risk of infection and to bring infected patients into isolation.
