The Little Mermaid: Harry Styles In Talks to Play Prince Eric

According to a new report, Dunkirk star and One Direction bandmate Harry Styles is in talks to play the role of the young prince who Ariel dreams of being with. Should a deal be reached, he would join a cast that includes Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder and Awkwafina as Scuttle. Back in March, Prince Eric trended on Twitter after a user suggested that Styles would make the flawless choice for the character.

The new Disney live-action will showcase well-known songs from the 1989 animated classic.

"The Little Mermaid" makers are in negotiations with actor Harry Styles to star in the film as Prince Eric.

The news comes to us exclusively from Collider, who says Disney wants Styles to play the role of Prince Eric.

Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Ursula, the sea witch, and Terry Crews recently put his own name forward to play King Triton, Ariel's father.

Production is set to start in early 2020.

Variety's writer, Justin Kroll, said Styles was "the choice" for Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid for "a while", but things got complicated when he tested for Elivs. David Magee ("Mary Poppins Returns") wrote the script. The story, a few mermaid who falls in love with a human named Eric, launched audiences to basic tunes like "Underneath the Sea", "A part of Your World" and "Kiss the Woman". He would ultimately lose out to Austin Butler for that role, but Styles has now successfully nabbed one of the key roles in a Disney offering that so many are hugely looking forward to.
