The eclipse will be visible for hours after, however, giving people the chance to see it as the sun sets and the surface of the Moon changes in appearance.

The Thunder Moon is a name for the July full moon: other names include the Buck Moon and the Ripe Corn Moon, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. This shadow has a central and outer shadow called umbra and penumbra, respectively. But it won't be easy; the moon will be low in the sky, and the sky will be getting bright in the run-up to sunrise.

However, during partial eclipses, Earth's shadow is cast on only a part of the Moon.

The eclipse coincides with the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11 to land astronauts on the moon and two weeks after the moon totally eclipsed the sun.

The eclipse will begin around 1.31 am on Wednesday, the research and academic director of M P Birla Planetarium in the city, Debiprosad Duari, told PTI.

Unfortunately, North America will be completely shut out; the eclipse occurs during the daytime with the moon below the horizon.

Photographing the partially eclipsed Moon is easy: you'll just need a focal length of at least 200mm or longer for the Moon to show up as more than a dot. From 4am onwards the shadow will begin to cover the moon's surface until more than half is covered around 7am. As per Eclipsewise, the next lunar eclipse will happen on January 10, 2020, but it will a penumbral eclipse, as opposed to the upcoming partial eclipse.

The first men to land on the moon, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, planted the American flag on the moon's surface on July 20, 1969, making the July moon one of historical significance.
