Former South African footballer Marc Batchelor has been shot dead in Johannesburg.

"He was attacked by two men who were driving a motorbike", a police spokesman Col Lungelo Dlamini told South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Marc Batchelor's wife was inside the house at the time two assailants pulled up next to her husband as he was about to drive in, shooting him several times.

"He was shot several times and died inside his vehicle", said Dlamini.

French star Griezmann joins Barca from Atletico
The Reds won the Champions League last season thanks to a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the European showpiece in Madrid. Griezmann , a 28-year-old French forward, last year rejected a move to Barcelona , signing a contract with Atletico instead.

"The suspects then drove away without taking anything".

Police said the motive of the attack was unknown and that no arrests had yet been made.

"He wanted to win, and losing was not part of his vocabulary", Steve Lekoelea who played with Batchelor at Orlando Pirates is quoted by TimesLive as saying. He also represented SuperSport United, Maroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns. In 1999, he was suspended by Chiefs for allegedly choking and threatening to kill a teammate.

He was also a witness in the high-profile Oscar Pistorius murder trial. Pistorius had a run-in with a friend of Batchelor's, who the athlete suspected of being romantically linked to his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp.
