Bottas leads Hamilton in British GP practice

George Russell in his first home Grand Prix in Formula One was unable to better the expected P19 but said he was happy with the improvement he felt in the vehicle - Robert Kubica finished in P20.

Haas has tried something different with Grosjean's auto this week, taking the unusual step of reverting back to the specification it ran at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix for the Frenchman.

"It will be a record crowd by our estimation, because this goes back before our computer records", said Silverstone managing director Stuart Pringle. "To all the crowd, thank-you so much for coming out". Leclerc shot to third place while Gasly shot to fourth.

Gasly was lapped by the victorious Verstappen in Austria and the team reacted with a major review of his vehicle.

"I needed to pick my moment, but luckily the team did it for me with a good strategy and then it was looking good for a good result".

"It was my mistake", Vettel admitted when it was all over and he had apologised to Verstappen who finished fifth. Leclerc therefore found himself on the tail of Verstappen and Gasly in the Red Bulls.

Sebastian Vettel had a day to forget, the German driver only just progressed out of the second qualifying session after the chequered flag and in Q3 could only set a time good enough to start from sixth position on the grid.

Both players were absolutely class on the court and following defeat, Nadal once again proved that he's the same off of it too. Sensing the end was indeed near, Federer held without fuss or bother to move within a game of the championship match st 5-3.

Vettel was given a 10-seconds penalty and two penalty points by the stewards for the crash on lap 37 of the 52-laps race.

With the safety vehicle still out after Antonio Giovinazzi spun off in his Alfa Romeo, Hamilton rejoined ahead of pole-sitter Bottas.

Verstappen, victor of the previous race in Austria to end Mercedes' run of 10 successive wins, was third fastest in the morning.

The advantage Vettel gained by stopping under the safety auto promoted him to third, with Red Bull's Pierre Gasly between him and Verstappen. "They were very, very quick, also around the corners". "That is not what made us finish second there, so we are pretty happy here too". You think that you'd get used to it and the feeling now felt just as awesome as the first win that I'd ever had so, really, really grateful to all of those people that have helped me achieve this today, nearly 1000 people I want to mention in our team, we got to see them yesterday at a family funfair event.

"Obviously I'm the one chasing, I'm behind but [there are] so many races to go and it's going to be up to me and my performance".

"I guess he misjudged his braking in there", the Red Bull driver said, "but I already spoke to him, he apologised to me immediately out of the vehicle, and that's it".

"Today was really good, I was really happy". We still need to find some speed for Romain (Grosjean).
