There has no official word on the release date, but production for "Mortal Kombat" is set to begin later this year in Australia.

The film comes soon after the release of the franchise's newest game, Mortal Kombat 11. Taslim has a solid action pedigree to back up his casting, parlaying his previous experience on the Indonesian national Judo team into a role in 2011 cult favorite martial arts movie "The Raid" (also known as "The Raid: Redemption").

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that The Raid star Joe Taslim has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat reboot. He's known for his attacks involving ice and has a long-running rivalry with similarly garbed fellow kombatant Scorpion. Still, Joe Taslim is the only casting confirmed now and James is eyeing various characters for the roles.
