Donald Trump Says "Airports" Existed In 18th Century During July 4th Speech

Donald Trump Says

US President Donald Trump is promising the "show of a lifetime" for the hundreds of thousands of revellers who flock to Washington's National Mall for July 4 celebrations.

Though the event is open to the public, the area around the Lincoln Memorial was cordoned off for VIP access, with the tickets given out to political donors, Republican staffers and other supporters.

Trump's speech Thursday mainly focused on praise for America's armed forces, and avoided the polarizing rhetoric of his campaign rallies. "It lives on in each and every one of you", the president said. But this year, President Trump has chose to include a military parade and a giant fireworks display, and a speech of his own.

The "Salute to America" event had drawn heavy criticism from Trump opponents, who argued that Trump was politicizing the military and co-opting what should have been a day of national unity.

While U.S. presidents have traditionally sat back to watch Americans celebrate independence in their own way, Trump himself directly took charge of the celebration.

"As long as we stay true to our cause-as long as we remember our great history-and as long as we never stop fighting for a better future-then there will be nothing that America can not do", Trump said.

Well, the Fourth of July celebrations in Washington began with a military parade featuring flyovers from military planes and a display of tanks.

Yes, they will be screwed over as they will miss out on some of the more significant role players by waiting so long on Leonard. There's also some good news in that the Los Angeles Lakers are now No. 1 in terms of the 2019-20 NBA Championship odds.

The irony is that for the most part Trump stuck to the script and, other than those two mistakes, reviews of the speech were generally favorable.

However Trump made an awkward blunder during the hour long speech while paying tribute to the U.S. army.

The US Air Force said it costs 122,311 US dollars (£96,500) an hour to fly a B-2 bomber, which is making the round trip from its home at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.

The celebration is expected to conclude with fireworks.

Trump read his prepared speech from a teleprompter behind a bulletproof lectern streaked with rain and that may explain the clumsy reference.

The president spoke to reporters as he departed with First Lady Melania Trump for the weekend to his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
