Black Caps loss leaves them in semi-final limbo

Black Caps loss leaves them in semi-final limbo

Pakistan's chances of qualifying for the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup received a major setback after England beat New Zealand by 119 runs on Wednesday.

A streaker runs on to the field while only wearing a green hat, and interrupts a crucial tie between England and Newzealand in the ICC cricket World Cup.

It goes like this: Pakistan has one game remaining against Bangladesh, and if they win they will be equal with New Zealand on 11 points.

"I'm hoping at the very end, when we're lifting that trophy high, we can say we were tested and we got through it."
But a win over unbeaten Indian side in their last game on Sunday was a huge confidence boost to Eoin Morgan's side, giving them the belief that they can still reach the semifinals. If we had a choice of where we would play our group-stage games, Edgbaston, The Oval and Trent Bridge would probably be the three grounds where we would have played the nine games, if it was just your own World Cup.

Few English cricket fans will want to remember the 2015 defeat in Wellington in which England was beaten in a day/night game before the floodlights were even required. It raises questions about the competitiveness of New Zealand.

For England it was the nadir.

It was also his third successive in ODIs against New Zealand.

"So it is important for us to have a couple of days away. after the round-robin it does start fresh to a certain extent because on the day anything can happen".

Skipper Morgan said he thought his side were "outstanding" in their victory over the Black Caps. The team that was touted as "not a dark horse but one of favourites" by South African player Chris Morris, a view supported by his captain Faf du Plessis, has suddenly dipped in the last week or so. "But if you look at our goal this tournament, it was to give ourselves a chance of making the semi-finals", Neesham said. "If not, we need to go out and play with freedom on what might be a better surface".

Lampard returns to Chelsea as manager, signs 3-yr deal
Claude Makelele and Didier Drogba could be soon coming back alongside the others as Jody Morris comes in as Lampard's assistant. Arsenal manager Unai Emery is also on £6m per season at the Emirates, which puts him ahead of new Blues chief Lampard.

Since that defeat, England's fortunes have been transformed.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, came out with a spirited performance in this World Cup.

Such positivity was justified, too.

But as ever with any England team, at any sporting tournament, progress is rarely simple.

Henry Nicholls, somewhat of a makeshift opener, was then belatedly thrown in the deep end against Australia and England, leaving limited time to find his feet.

If England lose to New Zealand, they will be knocked out should Pakistan beat Bangladesh at Lord's on Friday.

Jimmy Neesham ended the 123-run partnership in the 19th over when Roy, having made a run-a-ball 60, was caught at short cover.

England still had a job to do with the ball and Durham favourite Mark Wood did the heavy lifting as the Kiwis were rolled for 186, taking three for 34 as well as a highly fortuitous run out of key man Kane Williamson.
