Oscar Alberto Martinez Ramirez and daughter Valeria were fleeing from El Salvador, which is wracked by violent crime. Her arm is draped around his neck, suggesting she died clutching his body.

The photograph was taken by journalist Julia Le Duc, who lives in Mexico.

As per sources, Martinez swam across the river on Sunday with his daughter Valeria since his family from El Salvador was unable to present themselves to U.S. authorities and request asylum. So he swam across the river on Sunday with his daughter, Valeria.

Ramirez had shared the sea-green brick home with barred windows in San Martin on the outskirts of the capital, San Salvador, with her son, his wife, 21-year-old Tania Vanessa Avalos and their daughter until the young family chose to make the journey north. The father was able to grab his child but the two were swept away in the current. The account was based on remarks by a tearful Avalos to police at the scene. "He put her in his shirt, and I imagine he told himself, "I've come this far' and made a decision to go with her".

Their bodies were found on Monday in shallow water along the Matamoros, the Mexico bank of the Rio Grande, across from Brownsville, in the U.S. state of Texas.

Alvos said her family had been in Mexico for two months and had a humanitarian visa that was delivered to them in the city of Tapachula.

"I begged them not to go, but he wanted to scrape together money to build a home", Ramirez said.

In turn, Trump blamed the Democrats, whom he said were blocking his government's attempts at closing "loopholes" in USA law that encourage migrants to apply for US asylum. The pair had travelled from their home country of El Salvador and were seeking asylum in the United States.

It's a $6 million dollar bill every time one of these fairings is destroyed, so SpaceX is keen to figure out how to re-use them. It is more precise than the finest watch on earth and could be responsible for changing the way we travel through space.

They arrived at the Puerta Mexico Bridge on Sunday to request political asylum from the USA government but were unable to because the Tamaulipas Migrant Institute was closed.

First of all, the father had sold the little girl on the other side on the shore.

The president has pursued a hardline approach to immigration since coming to office and has particularly singled out Mexico for what he says is a lack of action to stem migrant flows from Central America, where people are fleeing destitute conditions including rampant poverty and gang violence in the hopes of securing safety or asylum in the U.S.

A photo of a man and his young daughter who drowned on the US-Mexico border symbolizes the failure to deal with their desperation, the United Nations refugee agency said on Wednesday. So they go to the river Rio Grande and without a lifejacket, which could protect their lives.

The family had been waiting in a migrant camp in Matamoros for an appointment to receive political asylum from the U.S., the newspaper said, citing Martinez's wife.

Meanwhile, Mexico is stepping up its own crackdown on immigration in response to USA pressure, with much of the focus on slowing the flow in the country's south.

US President Donald Trump threatened Mexico with trade tariffs until it agreed to help cut migrant numbers, amid a surge that has overwhelmed US border facilities, with immigration lawyers citing children being held for weeks without adequate food or hygiene.
