YouTuber Desmond 'Etika' Amofah Dead at 29 | Etika, RIP

Desmond Amofah, a YouTube gaming vlogger known online as "Etika", was found dead by NY police on Tuesday after he was reported missing last week.

On June 20, the NYPD posted the following tweet, "Have you seen Desmond Amofah aka Etika?". Hours later, a video was automatically posted on his YouTube account, and in it, he confessed to being depressed and suicidal. The force has since confirmed that the body belonged to YouTuber Desmond Amofah who went by the name of Etika.

Etika was 29-years old at the time of his passing.

Known for his high-energy reaction videos and exuberant personality, Etika has made discussing Nintendo one of his prime focuses. He had millions of followers before his page was deleted in October and hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers. The NYPD told Kotaku that a body was found in the river around New York City on June 24.

Police responded at 6:18 p.m. on Monday when someone called 911 to report a person floating in the water near the South Street Seaport.

"I really had no intention of killing myself", Etika said.

In a statement released by the NYPD, the department wrote: "The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, and the investigation is ongoing".

"You know I wasn't suicidal before - I really wasn't". "It will [expletive] you up and give you an image of what you want your life to be and it can get blown completely out of proportion, dog".

The star's younger brother, who asked to remain anonymous, told the New York Post that he hadn't spoken to his sibling in almost a year, but when they did, he didn't notice any problem with Etika's mental health. He also said he he suffers from mental illness.

Mr Amofah was last heard from on Wednesday and has a history of mental health issues.
