PK Subban, Lindsey Vonn love shocking Devils-Predators trade

Well, Subban sounds pretty excited, too.

The popular Subban was traded for the second time.

Nashville general manager David Poile said he's been an integral part of the team.

"It's on", the superstar defenseman said in a video posted to his personal Twitter hours after New Jersey and the Predators completed a blockbuster trade to kick off the second round of the National Hockey League draft on Saturday. The Devils sent the No. 34 overall pick of the draft, plus a 2020 second rounder and defensemen Jeremy Davies and Steven Santini, to the Nashville for Subban.

"Winning is the most important thing to me", Subban said.

In a two minute video posted to his Twitter account, Subban thanked everyone in Nashville for their support since his arrival in 2016, heaping praise on his former club while urging Predators fans to keep faith alive. In the week leading up to the draft, Washington cleared salary-cap room by trading Niskanen to the Flyers before re-signing forward Carl Hagelin to a four-year, $11 million deal.

It was a busy weekend for the Devils, who selected center Jack Hughes with the No. 1 pick at the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver the day before they acquired Subban, who won the Norris Trophy given to the best defenseman in the NHL in 2013 and was a finalist for the award in 2015 and 2018.

During his focus on the Devils toward the end of the video, Subban said he didn't own any Devils gear yet, with the closest thing being a Red Bulls hat.

It's an astute move by both teams but the Devils might be laughing all the way to the bank if Subban remains a top blueliner for the remaining three years of his contract. Aside from landing a 21-year veteran, the Hurricanes acquired a conditional first-round pick and a seventh-round selection in next year's draft.
