Mohamed Salah's Egypt secure win in AFCON opener

Egypt's midfielder Mahmoud "Trezeguet" Hassan (unseen) celebrates with his teammates after scoring a goal during their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations opening match against Zimbabwe at Cairo International Stadium on June 21, 2019.

It was thrill-a-minute stuff in the opening exchanges with Egypt dominating much of the attack.

The team led by Kwesi Appiah and his technical members together with the playing body departed the Asian country for North Africa ahead of the start 32nd Cup of Nations.

Where can I watch Egypt - Zimbabwe?

A looping header from lone striker Marwan Mohsen was tipped over by keeper Edmore Sibanda while a side-footed effort from veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Said missed the target after a pull-back from right-back Ahmed Elmohamady.

Salah forced a decent save out of Sibanda midway through the second half after being picked out by Trezeguet's defence-splitting pass.

Trump says Iran strikes would not have been 'proportionate'
Khomeini has the last say on all state matters and has ruled out any talks with Washington while Tehran is under sanctions. Trump insisted it is up to the Iranian leadership how the current crisis plays out.

The Egyptians broke through 41 minutes in after Mahmoud Trezeguet drove through into the area to find the bottom corner with a neat finish.

Egypt surged forward at the start and Mohamed Salah set up two chances in the first two minutes.

Momentum remained with the Egyptians six minutes later, as Sibanda denied Salah five metres from goal following a through ball.

The Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda are the other teams in Group A and they meet Saturday at the same venue, while Nigeria begin their campaign against newcomers Burundi in Alexandria.

Zimbabwe are appearing at the tournament for the fourth time and have never advanced beyond the first round.
