The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch until 8pm last Saturday for the western half of Arkansas.

A suspected tornado caused roof damage to "numerous" homes in northwestern Arkansas, a state official said, and severe winds downed trees and power lines across a highway, blocking all lanes.

"More isolated but still potentially risky severe weather, including tornadoes and destructive winds and hail, is possible in surrounding parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas".

More than 70 million Americans are under the threat of severe weather from Texas to southern Minnesota, CNN meteorologist Haley Brink said. Flood potential is high, especially across areas where the ground remains saturated from recent rains and flooding.

School districts in Oklahoma City, nearby Norman and elsewhere have canceled classes Monday as forecasts also call for hail and wind gusts of up to 80 miles per hour.

Forecasters say four tornadoes struck parts of West Texas this weekend, damaging some homes and businesses.

May 20 is the six-year anniversary of the EF5 tornado that leveled Moore.
