Comedian Tim Conway, "Spongebob Squarepants" Star, Dead At 85

The actor won Emmys for his work on The Carol Burnett Show in 1973, 1977, and 1978 and a Golden Globe in 1976.

Tim Conway, who gained fame as bumbling Ensign Parker on McHale's Navy and for a slew of silly characters on The Carol Burnett Show, has died.

Conway died Tuesday morning in Los Angeles after a long illness, according to Howard Bragman, who heads LaBrea Media.

Conway's other most memorable recurring characters included an elderly man whose shuffling pace always caused trouble and Mr. Tudball, a businessman plagued by an indifferent and inept secretary played by Burnett.

He was a staple of TV variety programs and comedy shows for roughly half a century.

Conway is survived by his wife of 35 years, his stepdaughter, his six biological children and two granddaughters. "He'll be in my heart forever", Carol Burnett said in a statement. She would go on to guest star on Conway's short-lived "The Tim Conway Show" in the early 1980s.

In his later years, Conway did numerous guest appearances - winning additional Emmys for roles in the sitcoms Coach and 30 Rock - and voiceover work in animation, including SpongeBob Squarepants.
