The Senate intelligence committee has subpoenaed Donald Trump testify about the Russian Federation investigation, becoming the first member of the president's family to be called since the release of the Mueller report.

In testimony before the House of Representatives Oversight Committee, however, Cohen, said he briefed Trump family members "approximately 10 times" about the Moscow Trump Tower project, and that Trump Jr. and his sister Ivanka were among the family members he briefed.

Yet in Mueller's report, the president's former lawyer Michael Cohen said he recalled being in Trump's office when Trump Jr. told him about a meeting to get "adverse information" on Clinton.

CNN's Manu Raju also reported that Trump Jr. was considering ignoring the subpoena and not showing up at all, or pleading his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. "Possible, possible, but unlikely".

An unnamed source close to Trump Jr. said on Wednesday that he wasn't sure why Republicans were doing this.

The reports came as a battle between House Democrats and the Trump administration intensified.
