Playing chicken with Trump's attorney general

The House GOP has sided with Trump and Barr for defying the subpoena for the full Mueller report and grand jury information, with Rep. "No redos for the Dems!"

Trump also insisted that Mueller's 448-page report found "no collusion" and "no obstruction", overstating the conclusions of the almost two-year investigation.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters Friday at the White House: "'Not a single Democrat has yet to go read the less-redacted version of the report". Suggesting that Mifsud might instead be an Federal Bureau of Investigation asset, Nunes and Jordan accused the US intelligence community of trying to catch various people affiliated with the Trump campaign in communication with supposed Russian assets - and the Mueller team of having conspired with journalists to place a false narrative in the public record, that was ultimately reflected in the special counsel's report.

Mueller also found 10 "episodes" of potential obstruction of justice but ultimately concluded that it was not his decision to determine whether Trump broke the law.

The contempt threat comes a day after Barr skipped a Judiciary panel hearing on Mueller's report amid a dispute over how Barr would be questioned.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Nadler said the stonewalling by the Trump administration threatened democracy.

"The Attorney General is supposed to act on behalf of the people and not act as the president's henchman", Harris added.

Barr already has publicly released the large majority of the report and even made available to Congress a version that only contained legally mandated redactions of grand jury testimony.

Trump told Fox News in an interview on Thursday he was not inclined to let former White House counsel Don McGahn testify before congressional committees.

In the letter, Nadler wrote to Barr that "Congress's constitutional, oversight and legislative interest in investigating misconduct by the President and his associates can not be disputed".

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has also persisted in his requests for the full unredacted Mueller report.

Barr voluntarily testified Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the Mueller report.

White House legal counsel Emmet Flood said in a defiant letter that Trump had the right to tell advisers not to testify to congressional panels on the findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation inquiry. But he said in a later tweet that he had misspoken. Barr has said he has no objections to Meuller testifying. Mr. Nadler said the panel was "firming up the date" for Mr. Mueller's testimony and hoped it would be May 15. "Sorry for the confusion".

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice has continued its own probes into elements of the Russia-collusion investigation.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is accusing attorney general William Barr of committing a crime by lying to Congress last month.

After a stormy hearing in Congress on Wednesday, Barr took flack from multiple directions for his alleged determination to protect Trump at any cost.

Democratic leaders say they've reached an agreement to invest $2 trillion online infrastructure.

Trump repeatedly tried other tactics to sabotage Mueller's investigation.

Indeed, a witness can provide written testimony, meet with staff or lawmakers behind closed doors or testify in public, but the Graham spokeswoman would not clarify further.
