Lakers proceeding towards Lue offer

Since Walton's firing, Lue has been considered a frontrunner for the team's head coaching job.

After a disappointing season that ended with the Los Angeles Lakers missing the playoffs, the team made a decision to part ways with head coach Luke Walton.

The organization is proceeding toward offering Tyronn Lue the head coaching job in the coming days and has no plans to introduce new candidates for the role, leagues sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne.

Lue is a more proven head coach than Williams, who never won a playoff series when he was the New Orleans Pelicans' head coach from 2010-2015.

In addition to his ties with James, Lue has a history with the Lakers.

Kawhi Leonard on Sixers superstar Joel Embiid: 'He did his job'
Leonard, Green, and Siakam had nine apiece to end the quarter; and so did Embiid, who lead a long list of Sixers' scorers. That is Philadelphia coach Brett Brown's way of saying that Butler has delivered when the Sixers really needed him.

James was obviously the central component in Lue's lineups, with that connection helping the Cavaliers compile a regular season record of 128-77 during their time together in Cleveland.

When the Phoenix Suns announced Friday morning that they would be hiring Monty Williams to be the next head coach, it became clear who would take over that position for the Los Angeles Lakers.

He too has a good relationship with James, having been a part of the Miami team that won two National Basketball Association titles back in 2012 and 2013.

Stay tuned for further updates on the Lakers coaching search.
