More than 700 at 2 California universities under quarantine amid measles outbreak

Health officials issued quarantine orders at UCLA and Cal State, Los Angeles to prevent the spread of measles, with more than 100 students and faculty members at UCLA under quarantine.

"Both universities are assisting with the implementation of quarantine orders and determining how best to support students who must be quarantined and who live on campus", officials said in the statement. We expect the trend to continue as more people provide proof of immunization or are shown by tests to have immunity to measles.

"Measles quarantine can be up to 21 days from the date of the last exposure, at which time the exposed person is no longer at risk of developing the disease and spreading it to other people", the statement said.

A quarantine has been issued for students and staff at two Los Angeles universities who may have been exposed to measles and either have not been vaccinated or can't verify that they have immunity.

The number of measles cases in the U.S. is at its highest for a quarter of a century, climbing to almost 700 this year. The schools said they're trying to identify anyone the infected persons may have exposed.

Those who couldn't prove they had been inoculated had been quarantined, it said.

Officials said anyone who was at LAX's worldwide terminal between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. or Terminal 3 between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. April 18 may be at risk of developing measles for up to 21 days after exposure. Numerous case occurred in the states of NY and Washington.

According to the CDC, the high number of measles cases in 2019 is primarily the result of a few large outbreaks - one in Washington State and two large outbreaks in NY that started in late 2018.
