Sumatran tiger attacks zookeeper in Kansas

A Topeka Zoo keeper was injured after being attacked by a tiger Saturday morning.

Addressing the incident during a press conference, Zoo Director Brendan Wiley shared that at about 9:15 a.m., shortly after the zoo opened, a female staff member was attacked by a 7-year-old male Sumatran tiger named Sanjiv.

After about 10 minutes other staff members were able to lure the tiger into an indoor pen using its food ration, Mr Wiley said.

Police are investigating a report of a person attacked by a tiger at the Topeka Zoo.

The incident caused the zoo to close for less than an hour.

"We do know know that she is out of surgery and is in stable condition", Wiley said.

As a result, he seems to acquire some “lady luck” which puts the brakes on his ability to spoil the games of others. The success of Ocean’s 11 has led to the development of a new spin-off, Oceans 8 which is due to be released in 2018.

The keeper was rushed to a nearby hospital following the attack by a tiger called Sanjiv and remains in critical condition. "Sanjiv will continue to be a valuable and viable part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums species survival plan".

The zookeeper suffered lacerations and puncture wounds to the back of the head, neck and back. The keeper had been in the same area as the tiger. "It's just fantastic our other staff was able to get the tiger to another area and leave her (the injured keeper)".

The Topeka Zoo is reopened for normal business hours, however, the tigers are not on display Saturday. "Some of our staff witnessed things that you hope you go through a career without witnessing", said Wiley.

Zoo officials are not considering euthanizing Sanjiv.

Other officials say the two were in the outdoor habitat when the tiger recognized that the zookeeper was nearby and attacked.

Video of the attack has yet to emerge.
