IL and Missouri politicians react to Mueller Report

Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., says she will add her name to an impeachment resolution aimed at President Donald Trump following the release of special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

The tome runs to more than 400 pages. Mueller laid out multiple episodes in which Trump directed others to influence or curtail the Russian Federation investigation after the special counsel's appointment in May 2017, and Trump made clear that he viewed the probe as a potential mortal blow - "the end of my presidency".

In fact, Mueller concluded that Congress has the authority to remove Trump from office, noting that his "conclusion that Congress may apply the obstruction laws to the President's corrupt exercise of the powers of office accords with our constitutional system of checks and balances and the principle that no person is above the law".

"In late July 2016, soon after WikiLeaks' first release of stolen documents, a foreign government contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation about a May 2016 encounter with Trump Campaign foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos", Mueller wrote in the report. While Russian trolls bombarded social media with pro-Trump memes and misinformation, a Kremlin spy agency hacked embarrassing Democratic Party e-mails and released them through WikiLeaks. Tlaib also called Trump "the most unsafe threat to our democracy".

The President's son, Donald Jr., set up a meeting with purported Kremlin intermediaries at Trump Tower in June, 2016, in hopes of receiving compromising information on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen, for his part, spoke with Kremlin officials to solicit their help in getting a Trump hotel built in Moscow.

The FBI, as well as the intelligence committees of the US Senate and House of Representatives, have been handling the investigation into Russia's alleged interference into the 2016 US presidential election. "Oh my God. This is awful". This is awful. This is the end of my Presidency. "I'm fucked", the Mueller report said.

Trump also asked former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski to reach out to Attorney General Jeff Sessions to get him to attack the Mueller probe, but Lewandowski simply dragged his feet. Mr. McGahn refused and prepared to quit instead: He packed up his office, wrote a resignation letter and told then-White House chief of staff Reince Priebus that Mr. Trump had asked him to "do insane shit".

Search for ‘dad and daughter’ in Notre Dame photo goes viral
Chief Rabbi of France Haim Korsia joined in offering condolences, saying , "Very sad images of the Notre Dame Cathedral tonight". French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of the global luxury group Kering, has pledged €100 million.

Meanwhile, according to a footnote in the report, the White House chief of staff at that time, Reince Priebus, was "screaming" at the Justice Department's public affairs office in an attempt to force Rosenstein to conduct a press conference.

For example, the report says that Manafort, shortly after he joined the campaign in the spring of 2016, directed his deputy to share internal polling data with Kilimnik with the understanding it would be passed on to Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch known to have close ties to the Kremlin.

Those actions have escalated partisan anxiety about Barr's trustworthiness and taken a toll on the standing of a Justice Department veteran who won over some skeptical Democrats with a smooth confirmation hearing at which he pledged independence and transparency.

Conway argued in his op-ed that counter to Trump's claims, special counsel Robert Mueller had not "exonerated" him and that it was time for Congress to step in.

I have said from the beginning that the American people deserve full transparency about Russia's confirmed efforts to interfere in our elections, as well as about any attempts to cover that up or obstruct investigations into their efforts.

A month later, Mr Trump fired Mr Comey.

Long before Mr Sessions resigned, Mr Trump began searching for a new attorney general.

Tweeting Friday from his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump dubbed the more than 400-page document the "Crazy Mueller Report". They scanned for their names to see what Mueller had said about them and how he had characterized their testimony, and wondered how those depictions might sit with a mercurial president. Congress and the president need to ensure there are safeguards to thwart such an effort in the 2020 election.
