Maajid Nawaz Offers Some Advice To The Climate Change Activists

Climate change protesters in London alarmed some morning commuters Wednesday by reportedly climbing subway cars and gluing their hands to them, among other freakish acts of protest.

The group claims it is planning a Good Friday protest at London's Heathrow Airport, opening a new front in its demonstrations that could cause problems for those travelling over the Easter break.

Extinction Rebellion has blocked several locations in central London this week after staging a semi-nude protest in parliament earlier this month.

The home secretary told police they could use the "full force of the law" to stop illegal demonstrations during the Easter break.

Extinction Rebellion co-founder Gail Bradbrook said "more people are joining us all the time".

Dame Emma said: "We will occupy until you take action because that's the only way we are going to save our planet".

He continued: "The next steps must be to start working with credible politicians that take this issue seriously from a policy level, and to start making some of that systemic change that you're calling for".

He said protesters could "expect a robust police response".

London mayor Sadiq Khan said he was "extremely concerned" about protesters' plans to disrupt the underground on Wednesday.

"As of 3.30 p.m. on Thursday, more than 460 people have been arrested - all for section 14 Public Order Act breaches and obstruction of the highway", London's Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Extinction Rebellion advocates nonviolent civil disobedience to pressure the British government to declare a "climate and ecological emergency" and take action to bring greenhouse gas emissions down to zero by 2025.

Protesters attached themselves to vehicles and to each other using bicycle locks, said the spokesman.

The planned action at the airport comes at the end of a week of demonstrations that has seen major London roads closed to traffic and more than 400 people arrested across the capital. Three demonstrators were arrested after stopping Docklands Light Railway services at Canary Wharf station on Wednesday.
