The group has called for non-violent civil disobedience to push the British government to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2025 and to stop what it says is a global climate crisis. Farhana Yamin, a protester who was arrested on Tuesday, told the BBC that she would like to apologize to commuters who were affected by the protest, but then attempted to justify the actions of Extinction Rebellion regardless.

Activists also targeted the Shell Centre, home to the United Kingdom offices of oil giant Royal Dutch Shell, with graffiti and smashed one of its windows.

Protesters shut down traffic outside New York City Hall Wednesday, partially blocking access to the Brooklyn Bridge, staging a die-in to demand radical action on climate change and remaining in the streets until the police arrested at least 62 people.

"We're now mostly centred in Parliament Square recharging our internal batteries, and performing outreach activity with members of the public, most of whom are very interested in our messages, even bringing gifts of food, water and coffee to keep us going. And adapt our tactics so that it works in other countries".
