Who Is Sol Pais? FBI Seeking Armed, Dangerous Woman ‘Infatuated’ With Columbine

After receiving threats, several schools, including Columbine High School, were placed on lockout on Tuesday. But federal authorities say the Surfside teen made threats to commit "an act of violence" in Colorado as the 20-year anniversary of the school shooting draws near.

The FBI Denver Division and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as Sol Pais and said she was considered armed and risky.

Pais' parents last saw her on Sunday and reported her missing to Florida authorities on Monday night, police in Surfside, Florida, said.

Authorities say 18-year-old Sol Pais made undisclosed threats that prompted Columbine and more than 20 other schools outside Denver to lock their doors for almost three hours Tuesday afternoon. Police who might come into contact with her were told to detain her and evaluate her mental health. Sheriff's spokesman Mike Taplin said the young woman's threats were general and not specific to any school.

Pais's interest in Columbine is far from a new phenomenon to law enforcement agencies in Colorado.

Students left classes on time, but after-school activities were canceled at Columbine in Littleton, Colorado.

Officials had no answer at the time of the press conference as to whether schools would open on Wednesday.

More than 20 schools have been temporarily placed on lockdown in Colorado as United States authorities investigate a "credible threat" just ahead of the 20th anniversary of the notorious Columbine High School shooting.

Eduardo Filipo is a 17-year-old junior at the school and says that teachers locked classroom doors Wednesday as a precaution.

"Those two things combined with her fascination of Columbine - that's pretty clear and convincing evidence that she was a threat to the school", he said.

Other districts that have canceled school and activities include Aurora Public Schools, Douglas County School District and Cherry Creek Schools. The FBI described her as "extremely unsafe".

"We consider her a credible threat to the community", Phillips said.

"The threat is not isolated to one school or individual", Colorado's public safety department said on Twitter.

Columbine High School is seen during a lockdown after being alerted to a "credible threat" by authorities on Tuesday.

Jefferson County school officials tweeted that all students and staff were safe and students would be released on a normal schedule.

Phillips says Pais did not specifically threaten Columbine, but investigators were concerned because she has expressed an infatuation with the 1999 shooting.

More than 150 people per month have been apprehended in the Columbine parking lot, attempting to take photos of the school or get inside it.

"She has made some concerning comments in the past. and because of that we were concerned", he said.
