Game Preview: Pacers at Celtics (Game 2)

Like his teammates, Irving was a bit off in the first half at TD Garden but came out firing in the third quarter and helped lead the Celtics to a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven National Basketball Association playoffs series. The Celtics outscored IN 26-8 IN the third with a flurry of three-pointers on 9/21 overall shooting, while the Pacers were 2/19.

"I think what we were doing out there today was good for us", Pacers forward Thaddeus Young said.

But whatever Celtics head coach Brad Stevens told the team at halftime worked wonders.

As a Pacers season ticket holder, once Victor Oladipo went down with his season-ending quad rupture, I pretty much wrote them off from there.

Irving dropped 20 points and dished out seven assists Sunday afternoon in the Boston Celtics' Game 1 victory over the Indiana Pacers.

For the Pacers, Cory Joseph led the team with 14 points off the bench and Bojan Bogdanovic was the only other member to reach double figures as he had 12. For what it's worth, the Celtics are also 20-5-1 ATS in their last 26 games played on Wednesday nights. But there was a gradual decrescendo, as the Celtics managed to tally just 6 points in the first six minutes of play.

Kanter, signed just before the All-Star break after he was waived by the New York Knicks , has started in Nurkic's place. The Thunder rallied from a 19-point deficit in the first half to trail by just 54-48 at the break.

One never wants to assume too much from the first game in a playoff series, but a lot of the concerns for in about being able to score enough to compete appear to be valid. "We were getting wide open looks and they were rattling in-and-out or they were just missed shots". By then, the Celtics scored 15 of the quarter's first 16 points to go ahead 53-46.

The Celtics lead the series 1-0.

While the Pacers lack a star, the Celtics have a number of players who can shine.

"We just had to turn that page", he said. On the flipside of that, they held the Pacers to 74 points, they least they've allowed all season long.

Marcus Smart will miss the first round with a torn oblique muscle but Boston can plug either Gordon Hayward or Jaylen Brown into the starting rotation.

The change paid off with Morris connecting on 3 of 4 field-goal attempts in the period, including two 3-pointers, and scoring 12 points. While it's just one game, the Boston Celtics seem to be playing with that pep in their step again, and they're one of the scariest teams in the league when playing to their full potential.
