Pep not happy at Gundogan 'nervous' jibe

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has defended his tactics in Tuesday night's loss to Tottenham in the Champions League quarterfinals. "Sergio reacted incredibly well to the penalty, the team was mentally strong".

"Sergio was strong and the team was stable".

"I don't agree with him".

"I don't agree with him, absolutely not", Guardiola insisted at his pre-match media briefing.

Guardiola's men went down 1-0 at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Son Heung-min's second-half strike, leaving them with it all to do in the return leg. We did not create too much but we were there. We controlled them quite well. I know how hard it is in the Champions League, away at Tottenham and we made a good performance.

He said: "He can say whatever he wants".

City can not afford any slip-ups with Liverpool two points clear at the top of the table - and Guardiola said he is not concerned about the pressure growing on his players as they fight for the Quadruple.

"In other games, that was completely true". Twenty months, winning every three days, 180 points over the past two seasons.

Large fire underway at iconic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris
Firefighters cleared the area around Notre-Dame, which sits on an island in the River Seine and marks the very centre of Paris. Firefighters are tackling the fire which began around 7pm local time - with the spire collapsing in flames two hours later.

"Regarding this specific game, it did not happen".

"Sometimes it doesn't work that well, because the competition is tough and the opponents are good".

"Look at how many chances the teams create".

The game was closely contested throughout but Liverpool's title-winning credentials ultimately prevailed, as they once again rose above Manchester City at the top of the league. "It's all or nothing on Wednesday, so hopefully we can perform well and win the game".

"They can punish us".

City have five games left to play in the league while Liverpool have four remaining.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Bernardo Silva are hoping to shake off injuries to feature at Selhurst Park. I have the feeling we are nervous in important Champions League games. "Selhurst Park is always hard because of the stadium and the quality of the players. We know what we are playing for and we are going to see".
