6 hurt after suspected tornado hits rural OH city

The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down Sunday evening in Shelby, Ohio, about 90 miles (145 kilometers) southwest of Cleveland.

ABC News went on to report that 150,000 customers have been left without power in Texas, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana as a result of the storms.

Multiple injuries were also reported in the town of Franklin, Texas where a large preliminary EF-3 tornado with winds of 140 miles per hour moved through the town on Saturday.

Damaging winds are expected to be the primary threat, but a few tornadoes are also possible.

The National Weather Service says strong storms have the potential to develop again over north Georgia, including the metro Atlanta area.

Another tornado in MS took the life of 95-year-old Roy Ratliff, after the twister struck his trailer. Schools were closed and one district's prom was postponed.

The tree "flattened the vehicle like a pancake", said Capt. Alton Lenderman of the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.

Practice zing - Drive by Z. Johnson doesn't count
Zach Johnson, a two-time major victor who won the green jacket in 2007, just shanked a shot at the par-5 13th. "That's a first. Despite the mishap, Johnson is positive that it was one-off, adding: "I don't think I could do it again if I even tried".

"This is an ongoing threat", said meteorologist Brian Hurley at the NNWS Weather Prediction Center in Maryland.

Meantime a 13-year-old boy drowned in a drainage area in West Monroe, Louisiana, late Saturday afternoon, according to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office. On Sunday, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said multiple fatalities have been confirmed in Monroe County, but did not say how many.

Severe weather had also swept the South on Sunday, unleashing suspected tornadoes and flooding that killed at least eight people, injured dozens and flattened much of a Texas town.

Weekend tornadoes killed at least five people, including three children, in the U.S. South, authorities said on Sunday, as a massive storm system with damaging wind and hail moved across the country and began drenching East Coast states. Another person - whose name has not been released - also drowned after their vehicle was submerged in floodwaters in Calhoun, LA.

"The storm is so vigorous that tornadoes are still possible after dark", Myers said.

The local watch was issued just after 1 a.m.by the National Weather Service.

Video from the area showed damage to houses with roofs ripped off.
