New Zealand marks Christchurch attack at Hong Kong Sevens

The Philippine Volcanoes aim to advance to the semifinals over Asian favorite Hong Kong.

Webber contracted the condition just a week out from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and hasn't pulled on the black jersey since.

New Zealand were in good form today as they beat arch-rivals Australia 40-19 in Pool C at Hong Kong Stadium. No. 10 France, runner-up last month in Vancouver, thumped invitational side Portugal 40-7 in the other Pool B match.

Hong Kong is the seventh round of the 2018/2019 World Rugby Sevens Series and the captains representing the 16 teams competing in the series event can look forward to performing in front of another sell-out crowd filling the Hong Kong Stadium throughout three days of thrilling rugby sevens action.

The loses came a day after they had lost 22-5 to defending champion Fiji, which was a stark contrast of last year's Hong Kong Sevens where Fiji and Kenya met in the Cup final with the Pacific Islanders winning 24-12.

The US Eagles are still in the fight at the Hong Kong Sevens despite narrow losses to England and Wales in the tournament's final pool matches on Saturday.

The final pool will see series leaders US tackle England, Wales and Spain, the latter having created history in Vancouver with their first ever victory over the All Blacks Sevens.

"I've certainly noticed an increasing intensity", he said, adding that the boost in funding for national rugby programs since the debut of Sevens at the Rio Olympics had raised the stakes in the world series.

But Fiji was beaten 26-15 by Australia in Pool D in the Las Vegas 7s.
