Apple Cancels Vaporware AirPower Wireless Charger For iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods

AirPower was expected to include a custom Apple chip that runs a stripped-down version of the iOS operating system to conduct on-device power management and pairing with devices that are placed on the charging mat.

This is the first time any of us at Cult of Mac can remember Apple completely canceling a product after it was announced.

The device, created to charge an Apple Watch, iPhone and AirPods all at once, was originally announced alongside the iPhone X in September 2017.

Apple has cancelled its AirPower charging mat, perhaps its most anticipated unreleased product.

'We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch.

On September 12, 2017, Apple unveiled the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, Apple Watch Series 3, Apple TV 4K, and related OS updates.

Samsung dual folding smartphone design is quite similar to Xiaomi's foldable smartphone
At this point, the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X are known quantities in the folding Android smartphone realm. Thus, it's not yet known how the South Korean smartphone maker is planning to place the camera sensor and where.

AirPower was announced at the same time as the iPhone X, a premium model that marked the 10th anniversary of the company's flagship smartphone.

Even though Apple has cancelled the AirPower project, the company has said that it still wants to push the wireless charging experience forward, and that it remains bullish about it.

When he announced the product in 2017, Apple senior vice president of marketing Phil Schiller said the charging system was "not possible with current standards" but that Apple's "team knows how to do this".

Wireless charging is a challenging technology.

The AirPower relied on a multi-inductor design, which was reportedly the source of the problems that Apple faced. While charging, the status of each device on the mat was supposed to be displayed on your iPhone. In response, Apple issued a (non) apology to its users. Charging multiple devices at once also created interference issues, according to another report. But after more than a year of trying, the company said the device could not be made in a way that met its standards. AirPod took months before Apple could ship them.

Additionally, Apple famously delayed the launch of its AirPods headphones, as well as the HomePod voice-activated speaker.
