Devin Nunes files $250M defamation lawsuit against Twitter, 3 account holders

Nunes filed his complaint Monday in Henrico County Circuit Court in Virginia, seeking $250 million (!) in damages, and naming two specific users and one other individual (a Republican strategist) as defendants along with Twitter itself.

Mair, who has been outspoken against the President and in 2015 set up an anti-Trump super PAC called "Make America Awesome", said on Twitter that she is "declining comment on this for now". "Twitter is "responsible" for the development of offensive content on its platform because it in some way specifically encourages development of what is offensive about the content".

The US congressman Devin Nunes sent the Twitterverse spiraling into hilarity late on Monday with his lawsuit listing the purported crimes of Twitter users "Devin Nunes' Mom" and "Devin Nunes' Cow". All Twitter users took away from the lengthy complaint, though, is how Nunes sees parody accounts for his mother and cow as serious threats to his image.

Nunes claimed that there was an "orchestrated effort" against him on the platform involving "several fake news accounts". "Unlike prior elections, where Nunes won by sweeping majorities, Nunes won on November 6, 2018 by a much narrower margin, receiving 52.7 percent of the 222,379 votes".

That renown helped Nunes' opponent, former prosecutor Andrew Janz, raise more than $9 million in a failed bid to unseat the congressman. "The defamation continues. It must be stopped". They lash Nunes as a "snowflake" - conservatives' favorite insult against progressives - remind him of the First Amendment, and gloat over the now viral tweets exposed in the court action.

"The notion that this would be an actual, valid lawsuit is a far-fetched one", she said on CNN's "Right Now", adding that the law protects platforms like Twitter.

Nunes' lawsuit also accuses Twitter of "shadow-banning conservatives" - where a user is unaware his posts aren't viewable by others except him.

Nunes while chairman of the House Intelligence Committee gained a national reputation as a prominent defender of President Donald Trump, including releasing documents that Democrats said appeared meant to undercut Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The claim by Nunes states Twitter set out to "squelch" conservative voices during the recent election, even calling it "shadow-banning" conservatives.

Twitter is not the only Silicon Valley tech giant to face accusations of liberal bias.

Mair, the suit alleged, "relentlessly smeared and defamed" the California congressman.

Nunes' attorneys said Mair used the moniker "Devin Nunes' Mom" without Twitter's consent to fire off constant tweets "for the sole goal of attacking, defaming, disparaging and demeaning Nunes".

While some of the tweets linked above that the complaint references contain expletives, here are some of the tweets referenced in Nunes' criminal complaint. Lawyers accused Mair of implying that "Nunes colluded with prostitutes and cocaine addicts, that Nunes does cocaine, and that Nunes was involved in a 'Russian money laundering front".
