Manafort now faces 7 years in prison _ and new NY charges

On top of the 47 months term he received last week, Manafort could have faced an additional 10 year sentence on Wednesday in Mueller's investigation into ties between the Trump election campaign and Russian Federation.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson imposed a sentence of 60 months on one count, but half of that will run concurrently with the Virginia sentence. "It is not a reflection of remorse, it is evidence that something is wrong with sort of a moral compass, that somebody in that position would choose to make that decision". Please let my wife and I be together.

"I can say to you with confidence that my behavior will be very different", Manafort told the judge.

Manafort was convicted of bank and tax fraud in the Virginia case and pleaded guilty in Washington to two conspiracy counts, each punishable by up to five years in prison. At last week's sentencing, Manafort wore a green prison jumpsuit emblazoned with the words "Alexandria Inmate" on the back.

The district attorney's office led by Vance has been investigating Manafort since 2017, and prosecutors in recent weeks subpoenaed Manafort's longtime accounting firm for documents, a person familiar with the matter told CNN.

Manafort eventually pleaded guilty in the D.C. case, after losing at trial in Virginia and being accused of witness tampering while awaiting trial in D.C. He agreed to cooperate with Mueller's investigation of Russian election interference in the 2016 election and the Trump campaign's possible involvement. This comes after Manafort had been sentenced to 47 months in prison in a related case in the Eastern District of Virginia for tax and bank fraud offenses.

Jackson also made clear that neither of Manafort's court proceedings in Virginia or D.C. touched on the subject of collusion, indirectly shooting down Trump's incorrect claim last week that Judge Ellis said "there was no collusion with Russian Federation".

Judge Jackson also addressed the defense's arguments about Manafort and collusion.

Serge Ibaka, Marquese Chriss ejected after ugly fight
Raptors forward Serge Ibaka and Cavaliers forward Marquese Chriss got intro to a skirmish during the third quarter of the contest. The last time he threw punches, Robin Lopez was on the receiving end and the duo were handed out just a one-game suspension.

He would serve more than seven years in prison in those cases.

Manafort's lawyers have noted that the charges that are sending him to prison are related to his work as an global political consultant and lobbyist, not his time with the Trump campaign. "He has not learned a harsh lesson", prosecutor Andrew Weissmann told the court, referring to the witness tampering charge. It was not present in this case, "period", she said.

Jackson acknowledged Manafort's generosity and care for his family and other causes, calling them "commendable", and said she did not discount that she did "not know everything that there is" to Paul Manafort, or will be to him.

Berman dismissed most of Manafort's claims of contrition to boost his previous sentence, in a Virginia court last week, by 43 months to 90 months, a heavy punishment for the 69-year-old veteran Republican and worldwide political consultant. But Jackson said Manafort should get credit for accepting responsibility because he pleaded guilty to the conduct at issue, though he later breached his cooperation deal with prosecutors.

Manafort has not yet entered a plea in the Manhattan case.

During Wednesday's hearing, Jackson ruled that Manafort should get a tougher sentence because he acted in a leadership role, directing others to participate in a crime.

This is a developing story and will be updated with additional information.
