Packers to sign Za'Darius Smith as part of free agent spree

The club is bringing another outside linebacker in four-year pro Preston Smith, late of the Washington Redskins. Smith had a breakout season in 2018, racking up 8.5 sacks and 60 quarterback pressures.

From 2005-2017, the Green Bay Packers employed Ted Thompson as their general manager.

Now under the direction of Brian Gutekunst, the new sheriff in Green Bay, the Packers have taken on a completely different approach to free agency. Top free agents like Trey Flowers, Trent Brown, Landon Collins and Nick Foles all have new (reported) homes and are all expected to sign on with new teams Wednesday. And if they don't re-sign 32-year-old Clay Matthews, they won't be as thin on the edge where the only double-digit returning sack player they have is Kyler Fackrell (10.5 sacks last season after just five sacks in his first two years combined).

Both additions help the Packers at arguably their two biggest weak points on the entire roster.

Demovsky reports that former Chicago Bears Safety Adrian Amos has also signed a deal with the Packers.

There is at least one prominent onetime PSU star staying put, however, as Tampa Bay tackle Donovan Smith has already signed a three-year, $41.5 million deal to remain with the Buccaneers.

The Packers paid him $37 million over four years ($9.25 million/year).

Turner gets a $28 million, four-year contract, according to a person with knowledge of the move. Cobb has been with the team since being drafted in the second round in 2011. For now, let's all enjoy this unique time for the Packers as they are finally active in free agency.
