Mixed bag for McIlroy as Fleetwood leads

Mixed bag for McIlroy as Fleetwood leads

Englishman Fleetwood, runner-up at last year's U.S. Open, snared a pair of eagles from par-fives on his way to a six-under-par 66, while Bradley followed with a 68 as the pair wound up on nine-under 135 through two rounds at Bay Hill. So I ended up coming down here and seeing a physio and trying to do as much work as I possibly could to get ready for this week.

"It was just nice to have a day like that and just constantly feel at ease really with hitting good golf shots".

The rest of the Spaniard's putts were from 6 feet or closer.

Keegan Bradley played bogey-free for a 67 in the morning, as did Cabrera Bello. "But, listen, I'm focusing really on the big picture right now".

The defending champion got off to a sluggish start in Orlando, sandwiching a birdie at the 13th (his fourth) between bogeys at the 11th and 18th. The new rule for a stroke-and-distance penalty allowed him to move it one club length away.

Five players were tied for third after carding four-under-par 68s - Graeme McDowell, Patrick Rodgers, Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel.

Mickelson's double-bogey came at the expense of one of the more daring shots of the day as the five-time major victor attempted a right-handed shot behind a net. The prize ranks as one of the most lucrative of the year, outside of golf's four major events.

Jason Day WD's from Arnold Palmer Invitational with back injury

Rory McIlroy is seven shots behind clubhouse leader Tommy Fleetwood after hitting a two-under-par 70 on day two at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

World number two Justin Rose was a shot back after an opening 71.

Jason Day is in doubt for the Players Championship next week after injuring his back and withdrawing after just six holes of the of the Arnold Palmer invitational in Florida.

It meant the world No.18 had to walk 300 yards back to the tee and reload for what was his third shot.

"I (aggravated) it last Sunday, and then got an MRI Monday which came back that I had an annular tear in my disc", Day said.

Quizzed by reporters after the round Day, who didn't play a practise round or the pro-am this week, said he had hoped the injury would settle down during the round but it hadn't.

"I got off to a good start but it's so early, and so many things can go wrong, you just stay in the moment and try not to think about the score", he said.
