Chicago police looking for source of leaks in Smollett case

The investigation into the alleged attack ofJussie Smollett was still ongoing.

According to CBS Chicago, a nurse, who remains anonymous, said that she was sacked from Northwestern Memorial Hospital last Tuesday for simply scrolling past the actor's chart without actually accessing it.

The accused workers were reportedly fired on the spot, and without much explanation, after Northwestern completed its review.

.

Smollett's attorney Mark Geragos says police have been insidiously working to ruin Smollett's case and his image.

Smollett had gotten into hot water back on January 29, when he'd been rushed to Northwestern Hospital for treatment of wounds.

Smollett ignited a media firestorm by telling police two apparent supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump had struck him, put a noose round his neck and poured bleach over him during an assault outside his apartment on January 29.

R. Kelly explodes in his first interview after his arrest
The latest charges against the singer span from 1998 to 2010, according to Cook County, Illinois, State's Attorney Kim Foxx. Kelly, who was born Robert Sylvester Kelly, was arrested on February 22 in Chicago before he spent several days in jail.

Smollett's claims had drawn so much sympathy from celebrities and the internet-with Smollett even sitting down for an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts to retell his alleged attack story...

According to the Chicago Police Department, Smollett paid Abimbola "Abel" and Olabinjo "Ola" Osundairo by check for a "phony attack" in order to take "advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career".

Jussie Smollett stirred up controversy when he was listed as a suspect in his own apparent attack and arrested as a result. Police claimed that the visible injuries to Smollett's face may have been self-inflicted. According to sources, those employees were terminated after receiving access to the "Empire" actor's medical chart.

One of the nurses said it was a misunderstanding, and claimed she never even accessed Smollett's chart, but she was sacked last week and believes many other nurses and staffers were fired for the same reason. Apparently, last Tuesday, she was called in at the end of her shift, was sacked on the spot, and was escorted out of the hospital. She's appealing her dismissal and is speaking out because she fears others may have been overzealously fired over the same misunderstanding.

Smollett has maintained his innocence.

This nurse who was sacked plans to appeal her case with Northwestern Hospital. However, she did concede that she and many other nurses and hospital employees were fired last week due to allegations of misconduct concerning Smollett's confidential information.
