Republicans to investigate 'administrative coup' plot against Trump

During an interview with NBC News' "Today", former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe defended former colleagues Lisa Page and Peter Strzok, saying the two are "good people who served this country well". "But what I can say is the deputy attorney general was definitely very concerned about the president, about his capacity and about his intent at that point in time".

Donald Trump lashed out at deputy attorney-general Rod Rosenstein.

Graham spokesman Kevin Bishop said no further details were available on the timing of the hearing.

During the 60 Minutes interview yesterday, McCabe said revealed Rosenstein was discussing invoking the Constitution's 25th Amendment, which allows Cabinet members to seek the removal of a president if they conclude that he or she is mentally unfit.

Following the firing of Comey, McCabe said, "People were shocked".

Trump was so fixated on McCabe's book tour allegations that he was still tweeting about the matter at 11:05 a.m. on Tuesday - just 25 minutes before he was scheduled to meet privately with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

That assertion likely comes from a statement by the Justice Department, which said McCabe's descriptions are "inaccurate and factually incorrect".

McCabe also stated Rosenstein suggested wearing a wire during his meetings with Mr. Trump.

Trump Claims Japanese Prime Minister Nominated Him For A Nobel Peace Prize
South Korean President Moon Jae-in said a year ago that he believed Trump should win a Nobel for his negotiations with Kim. He said Abe nominated him because he was anxious about North Korea conducting missile tests over Japan.

"I don't believe you're a reliable narrator and I'm not convinced this isn't just some kind of PR campaign to stop yourself from getting indicted", McCain said. I could easily wear a recording device.

The Washington Post first reported this anecdote from its inclusion in McCabe's book, "The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump", where it quoted Trump dismissing the launch during a July 2017 briefing as a "hoax".

Mr McCabe was sacked from the Justice Department previous year after being accused of misleading investigators during an internal probe into a news media disclosure.

The three men - Rosenstein, McCabe and Sessions, all Republicans - have become some of Trump's favourite punching bags. He also confirmed that he ordered an obstruction of justice probe against the president.

McCabe said that Trump may have committed the crime of obstruction of justice by firing Comey.

"I don't know that we have ever seen in all of history an example of the number, the volume and the significance of the contacts between people in and around the president, his campaign, with our most serious, our existential worldwide enemy: the government of Russian Federation", he told NPR's Morning Edition. McCabe said he had pushed for the probe to have an independent overseer, though Rosenstein - who appointed Mueller - had concerns.

"No one objected - not on legal grounds, not on constitutional grounds, and not based on the facts", he said Tuesday in an interview on NBC's "Today," ahead of the release of his book about his time at the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Trump.

McCabe ultimately did lose his own job, after an inspector general inquiry found that he lied to investigators exploring a media disclosure.
