Iran blasts U.S. efforts to turn Europe against nuclear deal

Former American diplomat Nicholas Burns praised Ms Merkel as the first non-American "leader of the West" since Franklin D Roosevelt.

The President's daughter delivered a rousing speech at the 55th annual Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

The Munich security conference showed a deep divide between Washington and its allies on many issues of worldwide policy, and the West fears that Russian Federation and China may use it to their advantage, an article published by the New York Times on Sunday claims.

Trump has also criticized the large trade surplus that Germany, Europe's biggest economy, has with the United States and has threatened to put tariffs on German cars in return.

Merkel had restated German support for the Iran nuclear deal only minutes before.

If China and the US are in the midst of a divorce, Europeans look increasingly like the children.

The Trump administration had announced the U.

"So we are opposed to the multilateralization of INF".

"Israeli behavior is putting worldwide law on the shelf, US behavior is putting global law on the shelf", he said.

Zarif said Pence "arrogantly demanded that Europe must join the USA in undermining its own security and breaking its obligations" and also slammed Washington as the "biggest source of destabilisation" in the Middle East.

He told the Munich Security Conference they "provide Beijing's vast security apparatus with access to any data that touches their network or equipment (and) we must protect our critical telecom infrastructure".

"America will be back", he said.

Two customers and one flight attendant were taken to a hospital, but officials could not detail the extent of their injuries. Passengers were given a meal and a place to wait for a replacement flight that will take them to Seattle .

But Pence - who last week during a visit to Poland accused Britain, Germany and France of undermining US sanctions on Iran - repeated his demand that European powers withdraw from the deal.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other European leaders at the Munich Security Conference voiced dismay at a range of Trump decisions deemed hostile to the US' Nato allies.

US Vice President Mike Pence earlier this week accused Germany, France and Britain of trying to "break" American sanctions on Iran and called on them to follow Washington in pulling out of the nuclear deal.

She argued that Nord Stream 2 pipeline would not make Europe dependent on Russian Federation, as Europe has many energy terminals to receive more LNG from the U.S.

"To all of you, I bring greetings from a great champion of freedom and of strong national defence, who must work with these members of Congress to strengthen America's military might and strengthen the leadership of the free world", Mr Pence said.

The end of her speech she was met with a long standing ovation from the crowd.

"If that is viewed as a security threat to the United States, then we are shocked", she said, drawing applause from the audience.

"We are proud of our cars and so we should be", Ms Merkel said, adding that the largest BMW plant was in the U.S. state of SC not in Bavaria and that many of these are made to be exported to China.

"Geostrategically, Europe can't have an interest in cutting off all relations with Russia", Merkel said.

On Afghanistan where Germany has forces she said there was a need to ensure there wasn't a rushed departure but at the same time "We have to convince our population that our security is defended by being in the Hindu Kush".

"U.S. pressure has a tendency to make us do the opposite".

She says "there's nothing that speaks against getting gas from the United States, but to exclude Russian Federation is the wrong strategic signal". "INSTEX falls short of the commitments by (European countries) to save the nuclear deal".

The U.S. reimposed economic sanctions a year ago after pulling out of the landmark 2015 Iran accord with world powers aimed at preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
