Will Smith Makes His Debut As Genie In New 'Aladdin' Trailer

Disney is giving Aladdin fans a first look at Will Smith's Genie.

Disney released a new trailer for their upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.

Fans can also look forward to Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Marwen Kenzari as the villainous Jafar and Naomi Scott as the handsome Princess Jasmine. But even so, nothing could prepare the world for what went down in the newest Aladdin trailer. From the casting of white actors at first (that eventually changed to include Asian-origin actors) to its unappealing first images, the movie was seen with trepidation by those who have grown up watching the beloved classic. Another tweeted, "In-dustrial Light and Magic, born and raised, In a computer is where I spent most of my days".

US Supreme Court Blocks Restrictive Louisiana Abortion Law
Critics say there is no medical reason for the act and that it unlawfully restricts women's access to abortion. A federal trial judge found the law unconstitutional in view of the Supreme Court's ruling in the Texas case.

Viewers have commented that Smith's Genie looks like dreamt up for a horror movie, not a Disney flick. It got to the point where Smith felt compelled to post on his Instagram that "and yes, I'm gonna be BLUE!".

To some extent, you have to wonder whether the problem here is the specific design of the new Genie, or just the basic idea of trying to adapt the Genie from the 1992 Aladdin to live-action. "I told y'all I was gon' be Blue! He brings his own style and hip hop flavor to it". For whatever it's worth, I don't think this looks bad, I'm just sort of amazed at how clumsily they've handled all these reveals.

One simply said: "Will Smith's genie is horrifying". The first trailer of the film debuted in October 2018, though fans only got a quick look at Aladdin and his famous lamp. Mena Massoud stars as the street-rat-with-a-heart-of-gold Aladdin, with Naomi Scott as the attractive and determined Princess Jasmine.
