The body of Emiliano Sala recovered

The Argentine's body has now been formally identified after it was recovered from the underwater wreckage in the English Channel.

France and Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe paid his respects, writing "RIP EMI".

Burnley FC said: "Burnley will wear black armbands at Brighton tomorrow following the tragic news regarding the death of Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala".

"Tonight and during the whole weekend, we will all be united in paying a last tribute to Emiliano before the matches kick off", LFP President Nathalie Boy de la Tour said in a statement. "Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and also to the family of the pilot".

Meanwhile, the Premier League club will help to make arrangements for his body to be taken back to Argentina with his family, Tan said.

He played for French club Nantes before joining Premier League side Cardiff City.

It was a story typical of the January transfer window - a buying club tenaciously chasing mid-season reinforcements but facing stubbornness from a selling club determined not to be left in the lurch by the loss of one of their key players.

LeBron James picks Kevin Durant first for All-Star Game
LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo were named All-Star captains after securing the most fan votes in this year's balloting. Veteran special additions Dwyane Wade and Dirk Nowitzki were designated for the final two picks of the draft.

Both Cardiff and Nantes paid tribute on learning the news that the striker had been confirmed dead.

Cardiff City have offered their "most heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family of Emiliano". "Our thoughts remain with them at this hard time", Dorset Police wrote, adding that they were continuing an investigation of his death with HM Coroner.

"Wherever you are today, we hope that there's a ball and a pitch waiting for you so that you can be happy for eternity", it added.

The French club have threatened Cardiff with legal action after the first part of the transfer fee was withheld for the player, who went missing on a flight from Nantes to south Wales on January 21.

Earlier this week, Romina shared a heartbreaking photo of her brother's loyal dog Nala waiting for her dog dad to return home.

However, the plane got missing and after several weeks of search, the wreckage of the aircraft was found and a body was pulled out from it on Wednesday.

Mearns told the BBC that finding Ibbotson's body would prove challenging.
