Pentagon moving troops to Texas due to migrant caravan

During his State of the Union address Tuesday, President Donald Trump called attention to the latest caravan of migrants making its way toward the USA and accused Mexican cities without evidence of busing undocumented immigrants to the US's southern border.

The lawmakers are up against a February 15 deadline for ending an impasse over Trump's demand for $5.7 billion this year to help build a wall along the U.S. -Mexico border that he says is needed to deal with a crisis of illegal drugs and undocumented immigrants.

Last year, a bipartisan Senate panel approved $1.6 billion for 65 miles of pedestrian fencing in Texas - in line with Trump's official request.

When Trump discussed El Paso's past, he sounded like he was describing Ciudad Juarez across the border in Northern Mexico. House-Senate bargainers say their talks have become increasingly substantive and some lawmakers - including Pelosi herself - expressed hopes that negotiators might produce an accord as soon as Friday. "The fact of the matter is that El Paso and most of the cities on the U.S. -Mexico border boast among the safest crime statistics in the entire country", Jon Barela, chief executive of the Borderplex Alliance, told the Post. "But we've progressed to be the number one safest city in the nation".

Face to face with emboldened Democrats, President Donald Trump called on Washington to cast aside "revenge, resistance and retribution" and end "ridiculous partisan investigations" in a State of the Union address delivered at a vulnerable moment for his presidency.

Few people dispute that barriers contributed to sharp declines in illegal border crossings in El Paso and other border communities. "And, El Paso was a safe city long before any wall was built".

Apple’s FaceTime Fix Is Out
You will need Wi-Fi access and your battery to be charged above 50 percent, or the device will need to be connected to a charger. The company has come under fire for its delayed response. "A logic issue existed in the handling of Group FaceTime calls".

Durbin said that Democrats don't rule out having some added barrier, but said the focus should be on technology to assist in drug interdiction. "We will build that wall one way or another", Pence said. He said he believes the weekend will involve talks that go beyond the negotiations over wall funding, to more general budget issues and other topics.

In 2005, the city had a murder rate of 2.5 for every 100,000 residents, compared with a national rate of 5.6.

At a White House event with law enforcement officers on Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence hinted that the option of declaring a national emergency and shifting billions of dollars from previously approved funding is very much alive.

El Paso has never been considered one of the nation's most unsafe cities, and its trends in violent crime mirror national swings before and after border barrier construction from 2006 to 2008, Federal Bureau of Investigation data shows.

"If it were me, I would have gone a little harder", said Pima County Republican Party Vice Chairman Chris King, at the Tucson "watch party". "The plan includes a lot of stuff that I think would enjoy wide bipartisan support, but there's an auditory shutdown when people say two words: the wall".
