Albert Finney, kitchen-sink drama hero, dies at 82

In his later years, Finney re-teamed with Sidney Lumet for the director's final film, 2007 crime drama Before The Devil Knows You're Dead, and he reprised his Bourne Ultimatum role of Dr. Albert Hirch in 2012's Bourne Legacy.

The family of British actor Albert Finney confirmed on Friday that the multi Oscar-nominated actor had died at the age of 82.

His big film break came as "angry young man" Arthur Seaton in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.

He followed that up the same year by starring as a disillusioned factory worker in "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning", and broke through as an global star in 1963's "Tom Jones", which brought him the first of his five Oscar nominations. He was a hit as Hercule Poirot in the original adaptation of Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express", earning Oscar and BAFTA nominations for Best Actor.

Finney also found success on Broadway.

Finney was probably best-known for playing lawyer Ed Masry opposite Julia Roberts in "Erin Brokovich".

The actor was nominated for an Oscar five times, but sadly missed out on the gong each time.

Referencing Finney's turn in the acclaimed 23rd Bond film, Craig added: "Wherever Albert is now, I hope there are horses and good company".

What people said about him: "Very sad to hear about Albert Finney". He played billionaire businessman and orphan Annie's adoptive father Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks in the movie.

Erin Brockovich is another of Finney's performances that shows his ability and range as an actor, changing the way many viewed masculinity and more. However, he never attended the ceremony itself, calling it "a waste of time".

"It was a privilege to work with him and an honor to have had him as part of our Bond family", said the pair in a statement issued via the official James Bond Twitter account.

Finney married Penelope Delmage in 2006 and is survived by her and a son, Simon Finney.

Funeral arrangements for Finney have not been released yet.
