Oscars Won't Have a Host for First Time in 30 Years

"We all got on board with that idea pretty quickly", Burke told reporters in the Los Angeles suburb of Pasadena. "It no longer does", she said, per Variety, before admitting that she's now confident the alter from tradition will not affect the show negatively.

"Ah mahalo dude, I was their first choice to host this year, and my goal was to make it the most fun and entertaining Oscars ever".

Despite the messiness surrounding Kevin Hart's aborted role as Oscar host - and the Academy staying mum about its plans - Burke appeared to invoke a glass-half-full philosophy, saying "the mystery" surrounding this year's ceremony "has been compelling", while demonstrating that viewers remain invested in the awards.

Reports had been swirling for weeks that the Oscars wouldn't have a host for its February 24 ceremony, as Burke affirmed in her remarks Tuesday. She also mentioned that a "lack of clarity" over the ceremony kept the Oscars in the headlines.

The Academy was left hostless after actor and comedian Kevin Hart pulled out of the gig in December following a backlash on social media over homophobic tweets he made several years ago resurfaced. "Producers wisely chose to not to have a host and to go back to having the presenters and movies be the stars, and that be the best way to keep the show at a brisk three hours".

Meghan Markle breaks major royal tradition by hiring a doula for birth
The Duchess of Sussex has been mocked for her recent interaction with sex workers by controversial British TV host Piers Morgan . Meghan Markle was born Rachel Meghan Markle, on August 4, 1981 to parents Doria Ragland and father Thomas Markle.

She said the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which organizes the Oscars, had promised ABC last year to keep the telecast to three hours - about 30 minutes shorter than in recent years.

She added the Oscar nominee luncheon on Tuesday "was a very exciting room to be in".

The role of anchoring the Oscars has thrown up problems for a number of hosts since then. "There are big popular movies being nominated".

The Academy Awards are set to air live at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT. on ABC.
