CDC: 2 More Child Deaths Linked to Flu

Recent studies show flu vaccine reduces the risk of flu illness by about 50 to 60 percent among the overall population during seasons when most circulating flu viruses are like the vaccine viruses. And although a cold can be a nuisance, you usually feel much worse with the flu.

DE health officials have announced three recent flu-related deaths, bringing the total number of people in the state who have died from flu this season to eight.

This flu season started weeks earlier than expected.

These numbers are similar to the comparable period from past year, when there were 1,289 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza and 297 hospitalizations. More than 200 people have been hospitalized for the flu.

Four more deaths from flu, including one in Tulsa County, are reported in Oklahoma in the past week.

The North Carolina Division of Public Health reported today 29 as the total number of deaths. The Centers Disease Control and Prevention says flu is now widespread in 45 states, including MI.

Christiana Care and Bayhealth recently implemented visitation restrictions at their hospitals to protect patients from the flu.
