How teen escaped after her parents were murdered in their home

Jake Thomas Patterson was taken into custody shortly after 13-year-old Jayme Closs sought help from a woman walking her dog in a rural, heavily wooded neighborhood near the small town of Gordon, about 95 kilometres north of Barron, Wis. Closs disappeared from her family's home in Barron when her parents were killed October 15.

Thousands of volunteers and hundreds of law enforcement officers had searched around the clock around the small town of Barron after Jayme Closs' parents were found shot dead in their home, the front door open and the girl gone.

Peter Kaskinskas, who tried to make Jayme feel comfortable in the 20 minutes she was in their home, said she declined food and water and appeared "pretty flat" emotionally. A suspect is also in custody.

Throughout the investigation, Fitzgerald said he did not believe that that Closs was involved in her parents' deaths. "[Patterson] planned his actions and took many proactive steps to hide his identity from law enforcement and the general public".

"She said that this person's name was Jake Patterson, he killed my parents and took me", Kasinskas said.

Jayme's family said what's most important is that she'll be home soon. There was also no apparent contact on social media, he said.

When police arrived four minutes later, no gun or suspects were found at the scene and there was no sign of Jayme. She did not know where Gordon was, and she didn't know where she was at the time. "I woke up to 15 phone calls".

Patterson graduated from the Northwood School, a K-12 school in Minong, Wisc., in 2015, district administrator Jean Serum told CBS News. She asks people to continue to pray for "Jayme's well-being and our families healing".

Barron Mayor Ron Fladten said Thursday night he was overjoyed at learning she is alive.

The Nationals made Harper a 10-year opening contract offer worth around $300 million earlier this offseason, the report says. He also noted that Machado is receiving offers between $25 and $28 million annually.

Patterson does not have a criminal history.

The town's mayor Ron Fladten said the news was a "great result" and that he had been "praying daily" for the safe return of Jayme.

The town of Gordon was not on authorities' radar in the search for Jayme, he said. After he was pulled over, he surrendered peacefully, Fitzgerald said.

Police say she had escaped on foot from a remote cabin.

There were days when it was hard to hold onto hope, he said.

Police believe the teenage girl may have been in the house at the time of the murder and had been searching for her.

According to authorities, Jayme was cleared medically Friday morning, and will be reunited with her relatives later today.

The case has been turned over to the Barron County District Attorney's Office, Prosecutor Brian Wright told reporters.
