White Sox Make Formal Contract Proposal To Manny Machado

Others mention the Sox can't possibly contend right away if they signed either of the top two free agents this offseason. Per Bowden, the 10-year, $300MM offer was merely the first offer the Nationals made to their erstwhile superstar. The White Sox reportedly are one of two teams, along with the Philadelphia Phillies, to be interested in both Harper and Machado. The same applies to Bryce Harper, which put a dent in beliefs they would each sign contracts near $400 million.

The Yankees despite being installed as the favorites are not looking to offer Machado a long-term deal.

It's still unclear whether the Nationals' interest is still on the terms they discussed at the end of the season, or whether the team's priorities have changed.

For what it's worth, ESPN's Jeff Passan - one of the most respected Major League Baseball insiders - reported on Wednesday that the White Sox are willing to go 10 years. The Los Angeles Dodgers have been connected to Harper but are believed to be unlikely to re-sign Machado.

A man claiming to be Whelan's brother said that Whelan had been in Moscow for a friend's wedding. David Whelan said he has no idea why his brother was targeted by the Russian security services.

The Chicago White Sox made a formal offer to Manny Machado on Thursday, according to a report.

Later on Wednesday, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score had some interesting tweets that looked like it was refuting Passan's earlier article.

Moreover, NBC Sports Chicago are reporting that the White Sox are at a disadvantage if the race for Machado comes down to a bidding war. Signing Machado would completely transition the White Sox franchise and rebuild, and all reports this offseason point to the White Sox being all in on a deal with the shortstop.
